There are stories of a sanctuary amongst the trees. A forest for the skinless where flesh is unwelcome. On All Hallows Eve, the animals of the earth rise to dance, shaking the earth with pounding strides and howls from deep in the forest. Dancing around the Pyre of Luminescence, they bleach their bones of flesh-form restrictions in the moon-rays of immortality. In revelry they thrive at the spiritual oasis of the fire dance, free to be wild and protected from mortal interference forever.

Don the dead head of the Stag and leap toward the heart of the skinless wood over rotting leaves and limbs. Join the great fire dance as you clop around the flames with your bone-white antlers reaching toward the moon as fleshless fingers.

  • As practice follows tradition, on the darkest night the bravest of mankind will disguise their form with paper masks to traverse the Fleshless Forest and join the carnival of the animal dead. Obscuring their humanity from the skeletal souls that prowl the darkness they will leap, stride, stalk and pounce to move as animal undetected. Take your place in the great dance but leave by dawn. Soft and pale, weak and frail exposed in first light you’ll be. Living intruders beware of the sharp bone and claw of those who wait to stretch skin over drum.

DANCE WITH THE ANIMALS OF THE FLESHLESS FOREST

Thundering drums rumble and crack amongst calls of unseen creatures echoing over the hills, carried on the edge of a still night from the glowing heart of the forest. Shadows flicker in front of the flames where the great fire burns, warming the bones of those brave enough to dance with the animal dead.

Difficult antlers

I believe I had left a review for this mask in the past but it's not visible now. My experience on making this mask was frustrating due to the tabs for the antlers. In fact, my first build attempt had to be abandoned because of it. It is impossible to stick all the tabs down because with some of them, having glued one tab prevents access to another. Specific example: tabs 96, 99 and 101 on part C. If you stick 99 down first, you cannot then access 101 unless you have not yet stuck down 96. You cannot stick 101 down first because it's then impossible put 99 in place if you have already closed tab 100 (which is supposed to be the first tab you stick). However, if you stick 100, 101 and 99 down, you then cant' stick down 96 because it's impossible to apply any proper pressure to it from "inside" the antler. The only viable solution was to do it in the order 100 >96 > 99 and leave 101 unstuck. This tab configuration is the same for many parts of the antlers.

Wintercroft

Hi Simon, Fletch from Wintercroft here. Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear about the build difficulty. Enclosed shapes in papercraft are always the most challenging aspect of the build - for this reason there are as few as possible in our designs, sometimes we employ a chopstick or pen to apply pressure to that pesky last tab in these type of shapes. ;) We're always here if you get stuck and hope you have fun on future mask builds. All the best, Fletch

Fantastic mask and lovely experience

I had so much fun making this mask and the finished product is so good! Especially considering how clumsy I can be. I’ll definitely make another mask next Halloween, if not sooner!
